| Abstract: | Western Township was one of the first three locations built by the Johannesburg City Council in 1920 for the purpose of housing Bantu employed in the municipal area. In 1962 abandoned as a Bantu location it was declared a group area for ownership and occupation by Coloureds in 1963. It was filled with Coloured families from slum areas in the city. It is regarded more or less as a transit camp. The City Council is planning to demolish the whole of the township and to rebuild it as a model housing scheme. The survey was designed to reveal: 1.
