Abstract:Discussion of policies and practices concerning contraception, abortion and the custody of children in Nigeria. The author is particularly concerned with the manner in which the law impinges upon women, restricting choice and reaffirming an unquestioned subordination of married women to their husbands. She suggests that women should be involved in the planning, policy-making and legislation in these areas. An earlier version of this paper was presented at the second annual 'Women in Nigeria' conference, Zaria, Nigeria, April 1983. Bibliogr.
