| Abstract: | A short account of the Nyoro institution of 'councils of natives' or of 'neighbours' (nkurato z'enzarwa or z'abatahi). The author briefly considers the nature and size of the communities in which these councils operate, their composition, the kinds of disputes they deal with and their manner of dealing with them (giving a few examples), the ways in which Banyoro regard them and, finally, their social significance and effectiveness. |
