Abstract: | Is concentrated on the origin and structure of history syllabuses now in use, their adequacy for today and the general direction in which future development should move. As examples are used the syllabus of the Department of History of the University of Ibadan and of Ahmadu Bello University. Conclusion: dissatisfaction with the conventional syllabus is caused by the fact that it does not expose students adequately, or even at all, to all the possible different approaches to history and that it denies them the opportunity to acquire the exact techniques which will single them out for specific professions and jobs.
