Abstract: | The brigades in Botswana have attracted a great deal of attention because they provide vocational training to school-leavers at little or no cost to the government and because they make innovative use of scarce resources. The first brigade was created in 1965; in 1971 there were 31 brigades with about 850 trainees. There exist builders', textile and farmers' brigades, and brigades for mechanics, handicrafts, leather tanning, printing and hotel keeping'. At the end the participation of the government in the brigades is discussed. Notes, bibl. |
