Abstract: | The invasion of Guinea (Conakry) in November 1970 posed a number of problems connected with the fundamental purposes of the Organization of African Unity (OAU): to promote the unity and solidarity of the African states, to defend their sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence, and to eradicate all forms of colonialism. The basic reason for using the OAU for such situations is to avoid cold war intrusions and the OAU has turned out to be the safest peace-keeper for Africa. The second session of the Defence Commission in February 1965 conceived of an African Defence Organization (ADO) for maintaining peace and security in Africa. The possibilities of this organization are exposed in the article. |
