Abstract: | Much has been written and assumed about the impact of World War II on the political consciousness of African soldiers. In the Gold Coast, the actions of ex-servicemen in the events of Febr. 1948 have become a sacred part of Ghanaian national historiography. This study looks at what Africans did and felt during the 1939-45 struggle and examines this training ground of new experience and supposed heightened political awareness. It also analyses the known ideas and aspirations of soldiers from the Gold Coast, and bow they were (or were not) articulated after the war, either individually or within organisations for veterans. First, the author observes upon past research and Methods directed to this topic. Notes. |
