Abstract:This paper examines lexical innovation in Igbo, which strongly reflects the impact of contact with English language and culture. Essentially it is an attempt to classify terms used today in an Igbo-speaking context by a large variety of Igbo/English bilinguals which are potential by-products of language and/or culture contact. After the introductory section, the second section of this article deals with theoretical issues; section 3 deals with problems in the classification of data; sections 4 and 5 discuss the data and suggest further studies.
