Abstract:The purpose of this paper is to investigate, through a consideration of the questioning of nouns and verbs in Yoruba, the relationship between the questioned constituent and the corresponding constituent in the answer. In particular, it is suggested that additional semantic features are required in the case of noun phrase constituents and that verbs too need to be divided into a number of semantic types where the differences in the types can be related to differences in case roles.
