Abstract:Qadiriyyah and Tijaniyyah, the two main Sufi tariqahs in Nigeria in the twentieth century, have experienced changing relations. For a long time they were on the war path. Due to some circumstances - inter alia the emergence of an anti-sufi organization, known as 'Izalah' (Jama'at 'izalat al-bid'at wa-igamat al-sunnah = Organization for the removal and the upliftment of the Tradition) - they swept their differences under the carpet and formalised relations. This article examines the causes of the changing relations of the two mystical bodies in Nigeria. - Notes.
