Abstract: | Since the adoption of the Arusha Declaration in 1967, Tanzania has charted a course for its industrial development within the framework of the economic and social objectives of equality, socialism and self-reliance. This paper explores Tanzania's experience in industrial development and planning before and after the Arusha Declaration. Special emphasis is placed on outlining the organisational and institutional policies and machineries evolved in resolving some of the general problems facing the development of the industrial sector of the Tanzanian economy.
