Abstract:Agricultural marketing as a factor in agricultural development is one of the neglected institutions in Nigeria, probably because marketing and distribution of agricultural commodities are not crucial in increasing production. The authors first examine the importance of market structure in agricultural development. Then they discuss the structure of the agricultural market in Nigeria, its relation to agricultural development and its effect on production and allocation. Finally, they suggest some remedies for a better market organization in which the government has to play an important role. - Notes.
