| Abstract: | The party document 'Siasa ni Kilimo' (Politics in Agriculture) of 1972 recognised that long-term agricultural development in Tanzania required increased agricultural efficiency both in production and marketing. The present paper reviews the progress and problems of marketing development over the ten years period since 1972 by examining the National Milling Corporation, its actual performance and constraints. The authors include a list of fourteen recommendations aimed at solving the major problem currently facing the agricultural sector in Tanzania, viz. the disorganised state of the marketing, input supply and extension services.
