Abstract:Describes the structure of retail trade in local and imported foodstuffs in a growing capital city in West Africa (Accra) and discusses the ways in which new channels of trade have developed to meet the demands of a rapidly increasing population. Considered is how far this trade agrees. with the models described by V.W. Ruttan (Agricultural Product and Factor Markets in South-East Asia 1967) and R.D. Stevens (Elasticity of Food Consumption associated with Changes in Income in Developing Countries, 1965).
