Abstract:A survey conducted in the two major African townships of Harari and Highfields, which had a two-fold object: 1. to investigate the retail facilities available in the townships, 2. to determine the extent to which their populations rely on the shopping centres in the townships or on those of Salisbury for purchases of the various sorts of goods. Considering the preference for shopping in the city, because of the generally lower prices for a better quality of goods, a policy should be followed to improve the commercial and shopping facilities in the townships.
