Abstract: | The first publication of the Rhodes-Livingstone Institute which sets out the results of a scientific investigation by one of its African Research Assistants. The study is concerned essentially with the petty trader in town. Two important facts are demonstrated: The importance of capital reserve and the part that kinsmen play. The boycott of the municipal markets by the vendors was studied afterwards. 9 tables and 3 appendixes. |
