Abstract: | State trading companies refer to the trading companies carved out of the defunct State Trading Corporation (STC) and now under the purview of the Board of Internal Trade. These companies include seven national trading companies: AISCO, BHESCO, NAPCO, DABCO, HOSCO, GEFCO, and TANZATEX, and nineteen Regional Trading Companies (RTC), one in each Region except the coast,. which is served by the Dar es Salaam RTC, a Transport Company, and the Dar es Salaam Textile Company,. which in all constitute the nucleus of the state trading system. Serious allegations have been made concerning the futility and inefficiency of the state trading systems, and there is a need for objective analysis of the problems that afflict them. The present author, who is chief of manpower development and administration of the Board of internal Trade, analyses the pertinent problems confronting state trading in Tanzania, so that further studies can be made and solutions hastened in the endeavour to strengthen state trading in the country. |
