Abstract: | Discussion of the way social life is developing in a new settlement of date-growing peasants near El Oued in south-eastern Algeria, set up as a project of the Algerian Agrarian Revolution. After a few explanatory notes about the Agrarian Revolution a short analysis is given of traditional village social structures in the ares, and the author investigates in how far any new patterns are developing in the village of Akfadou.
