Abstract:A determination of the size and the ethnic composition of eight fishing settlements along the shores of Lake Chilwa (Malawi). The discussion is focussed on: age-structure of the population, the proportion of males and females in each of the lake areas, the influx of migrants to the lake-side, and assessment of the proportion of migrants in the lake settlements. Four tables which show resp. the estimated landings of fish from 1963-1969, the quantity and value of Lake Chilwa fish, the total population of certain lakeside settlements, and enumeration of population on Chisi Island.
