Abstract:In this article the author shows that most of what has been said and written about 'L'Etudiant Noir' (1935) as the periodical that launched the negritude movement is not at all based on fact. Especially, an examination of Lilyan Kesteloot, 'Les écrivains noirs de langue française: naissance d'une littérature' (Bruxelles, 1963) led to this conclusion. Notes.
