Abstract:Albert Luthuli's identified speeches span the years from 1946, when he was newly elected to South Africa's Native Representative Council, until 1964, when, because he was serving out his third banning order, his speeches had to be delivered by others. In this index, his speeches are arranged chronologically, with a title index by location. Each entry has, if available, the date of the speech, the title or first line, the place where the speech was delivered, and/or the occasion. The location of the speech (full text or excerpts) is also cited. The bulk of the speeches are to be found in three collections; the Luthuli Papers; the Karis/Carter Collection; and the transcripts and records of the South Africa Treason Trials. All are on microfilm and available through the Center for Research Libraries.
