| Abstract: | Deals with the attempt on the part of the Sudan government to make Shukriya pastoralists become resident farmers. After ten years the enterprise may be termed as moderately successful. The author adresses himself to two closely related problems: - the factors that seem most prominently to constrain and determine the features of Shukriya adaptation to a mixed economy; and - the macro-ecological implications of such adaptations.
