Abstract: | In analyzing the Western and Soviet perspectives of Afro-Arab relations this paper focusses on the collective level of Afro-Arab relations, as manifested and crystallized in the forms of close cooperation between Arab and African liberation movements in the 1950s and the 1960s and as embodied in institutional and organizational patterns in the 1970s and 1980s, such as the growth of cooperation and coordination between the Arab legue and the OAU which reached its peak in the first Afro-Arab summit of 1977.
