| Abstract: | Today 20 of the 21 Arab countries have a negative agricultural trade balance. The major problem underlying the low level of food self-sufficiency is the unequal distribution of agricultural potential in the region. The rich countries have poor food potentials while the poor countries often have high potentials. Some of the wealth of the rich countries should be invested in the agricultural base of the poor ones. Such co-operation would have to overcome political divisions and embrace a number of concrete measures. Notes. |
