Abstract:The purpose of this paper is to present the educational situation in Tunisia and its progress with in the last decade, with a specific emphasis on the socio-longhuistic context. The author concludes that Tunisia, fully aware of the great importance of education and literacy, has put great efforts into them which are just beginning to show results. Background - The linguistics problems: Tunisian multilingualism (Tunisian Arabic, classical Arabic and French; and also Italian and Berber spoken by less than 1/10 of the population) - Literacy - The functional roles of Arabic and French in Tunisia-Educational reform: 1) Primary education; Intermediate education; Secondary education; Higher education) - The educational budget - Adult education - Conclusion.
