Abstract: | The 1952 report on African Education, produced on behalf of the Nuffield Foundation and the Colonial Office, pointed to the need for a greater understanding of the African background to education and drew attention to the needs of Muslim communities in Africa for religious education within the framework of a western education system. This paper analyses the problems attended with the task of satisfying these needs, and suggests ways to overcome them. The author has been able to observe the development of these problems in Northern Nigeria. |
