Abstract:Since 1950 the Italian Administration has been attempting to build, in the educational sphere, an organization designed to meet two necessities: A durable scholastic system for the future, and the immediate needs of the country. Several types of schools have already been founded The urgent need for an adequate number of Somaliteachers has led to the inauguration of special short courses of one or two years depending on the educational standard of the student on enrolment. In 1960 there will be almost enough Somali-teachers of elementary grades to meet the needs of the country. Short courses exist for the training of medical order lies, midwives, nurses, vetenary assistants and social workers.
