Abstract:Ibadan, still regarded as the largest traditional city not only in Nigeria, but also in intertropical Africa, has had many favourable factors underlying if continued growth. One important growth factor has been its industrial activity. This paper examines the development of the city's industrial activity from its traditional craft form to its modern factory types. It is an attempt to analyse the structural and spatial dynamics of change in what is now probably the most modern activity component of a traditional city. Fig., notes, ref., tab.
