Abstract: | Based on the results of three field research studies carried out in 1970/72, 1975, and 1979/80, in two urban communities in the Khartoum area known as Tuti Island and Burri al Mahas, the article discusses certain aspects of culture change and social organisation in the context of urbanisation.
