Abstract:As part of a study of the psychological effects of social change made in Sierra Leone between May 1961 - and June 1962, a programme of research was carried out to examine certain aspects of race and inter-group relations, particularly in a context of although carried out in all parts of the country, was based in the Northern Province at iron-ore mine munity of Lunsar. The mine is approximately eighty miles by road to the north-east of the coastal capital of Freetown. Due to the amount of material invclved in these studies the results have had to be divided into two papers. The first paper is concerned with historical and cultural perspectives, purposes and design, traditional associations with skin colour, and the European image. The second paper is concerned with inter-group relations in Sierra Leone, social distance, an attitude changes resulting from the effects of education and mobility. Tables; references.
