| Abstract: | The author participated both at the Monrovia colloquium and the Lagos Summit. After a brief discussion of the failure of the former development strategy, he sets forth and analyzes the basic principles and the fundamental orientations of the new strategy. The new strategy must break with the past, revitalize and re-examine traditional African values, open Africa to the outside on the basis of the principle of 'assimilation without being assimilated', adopt a long-term vision and, above all, promote systematic regional co-operation among African states. |
