Abstract: | The Weppa-Wano inhabit the north-eastern portion of Etsakor district in the Benin province of midwestern Nigeria. This paper describes the marriage system of the Weppa-Wano. A brief sketch of the research setting is followed by a descriptive account of the types of marriages found, viz. amoya and isomi. After discussing the structural implications of these marriage types, the paper concludes with a table intended to show the impact of social change for the system. Bibl., notes, tables, diagrams. |
