Abstract: | This article proposes to focus on one aspect of the discussions on the many problems of 'The Young' - politically relevant generation conflict -; proposes a conceptual framework within which that phenomenon may be examined, and to suggest the directions in which fruitful enquiry might lie. African examples are used. Frame of discussion: 1. Generations and conflict (Two types of generation - Chronologically-defined generations - Non-chronological generations); 2. Problems of locating generation conflict (The complexity of conflict - Relating generation discontinuity and conflict - The diffuse nature of generation conflict); 3. The structure of generation conflict; causes and forms; 4. Summary and postscript; dealing with generation conflict. Notes, French summary p. 418-420. |
