Abstract: | In Rhodesia the realisation among all African students that, whatever their industry and ability, their chances of achieving any satisfactory qualification are negligible, becomes each year of greater importance. At each stage there is a drastic reduction in places available to African students, though this is not so for whites. This is caused not by academic inadequacy, but by lack of places, lack of schools, lack of opportunity. Another problem facing young Rhodesians is the financing of their education. However, were African students to give up their studies, one imposing argument for continuing with minority rule would be the established lack of qualified Africans to take the reins. In view of this the Budiriro Trust, established in 1967, provides money and opportunities for students to study for 'A' level and university degrees in Rhodesia, in other African countries and in Britain. |
