Abstract: | The Kenya Government's introduction of land consolidation in the Kikuyu districts during the Mau Mau emergency brought to the fore the Kiama Kia Muingi (Society of the People), a secret society that surfaced in 1955 and was not completely put down by the Government until after 1959. Its major aim was opposition to land consolidation. The article analyses the nature of the society, its opposition to land consolidation and how the government reacted to the activities of its members. Notes. |
