Abstract:Dealing specifically with age-group in Yoruba traditional society, the author explains the present distribution of age-group in Yorubaland through a critical analysis of the literature. He indicates various factors to which the present distribution of age-group in Yorubaland car be attributed. After indicating the organizational aspects of the age-group, the author considers its institutional aspects and discusses its several functions. He indicates how under the changing condition of the Yoruba society these functions have been taken over by other agencies, such as the local government, the co-operative societies, youth organisations and schools.
