Abstract: | This paper outlines the role played by the Institute for Development Studies (IDS), University of Nairobi, in the conduct and organisation of social science research on development in Kenya. The authors describe the origins of the IDS, its organisational structure and orientation, its impact on development policy, and its relations with other research institutes. The major strengths and weaknesses of the Institute are also briefly discussed. Notes. |
