Abstract:The teaching of Chemistry and Science in general at the secondary school level has tended to be too rigid. Chemistry instruction has tended to concentrate on presenting the 'pure' substance of the field. This approach tends to stifle rather than stimulate the interest of the student. The teaching of Chemistry at the secondary school level in Nigeria should aim at the attainment of specific objectives. The secondary school Chemistry course should be developed along two lines, one concerned with basic chemical theory and the other with the importance and relevance of Chemistry in everyday life. This paper addresses itself to some of the ways of achieving the latter obejctive. Ref., sum. (in French).
