Title:The development of business teacher education programme at Kenyatta University College

Geographic term:Kenya

teacher education
Abstract:One of the problems associated with the further development of business and commercial education was the extreme shortage of qualified teachers in this specialization, instructors who could teach the expanding course offerings and assist in future development. Until recently, most of the qualified teachers in this area were non-citizens, recruited from overseas. A very limited number of Kenyan citizens studied privately for the Pitman's Teachers' Certificates in Typewriting and Shorthand. The Kenyan Ministry of Education realized that effectively-trained business teachers were required to man the expanding business education programmes in the institutions and therefore embarked upon a programme for training these teachers at Kenyatta University College. The Canadian International Development Agency, Canada's Bilateral Aid Programme, was instrumental in initiating Kenya's first Business Teacher education Programme at this institution in 1970. Tables.
