Abstract: | Although the belief system of the traditional Yoruba may appear otherworldly and excessively religious, Yoruba thought is more profoundly expressed in their social and moral values, which are man-centred. They are about how man can preserve and perpetuate his life and achievements. The Yoruba see religion as an asset to manipulate and to maximize the quality of life. This assessment of Yoruba religiosity is discussed, as well as possible objections to it. Ref. |
