Abstract:Study of the differential perceptions and patterns of interaction of the various segments of one transform of the plural society - the non-settler colonial society - examined in the Northern Nigerian context at the time of the establishment of colonial society in the early twentieth century. The paper concentrates on (1) expatriates, especially missionaries and colonial officials; (2) those from indigenous society who were most likely to come into contact with them; end (3) type situations of contact among members of different components within the expatriste segment end among members of different categories of expatriate society and indigenous people from various categories of that part of the plural society. Not only is their always real or potential conflict between the corporate segments of the plural society, but also within each section dynamic conflict exists. Notes, refs.
