Abstract:In 1935 the Eritrean Peoples Liberation Front (EPLF) and the Tigray Peoples Liberation Front (TPLF) made public their differences on the questions concerning the rights of 'nationalities' to self-determination, and their impilcations for the future of Ethiopia. These differences have been followed by a break in military relations between the EPLF and the TPLF, conflicts on the wisdom of moving the starving out of Tigray to the camps in Sudan and an end to cooperation in moving famine relief across Eritrea to Tigray. The EPLF's statement is published here (reprinted from 'Adults', vol. 1. no. 11 (1985)), as well as a more recent statement by the Central Committee of the TPLF on the occasion of the 24th anniversary of the armed struggle in Eritrea (September 1985).
