Abstract: | This sociological study examines the functions and the significance of rumours and gossip collected by four students (two non-Ganda and two Ganda) among non-Europeans, and by the author among Europeans, between 25 May and 20 June 1966 during the coup d'état of Milton Obote against the Kabaka.
