Abstract: | Examines one of the prime governmental tools used in the modernization of separation in South Africa that is, regional development policy, in terms of its spatial results. The article reviews the nature and extent of recent changes in the geographical structure of the country which are the product of its apartheid system. Sections: spatial organization of South African society - the role of regional policy - goal achievement of rational policy - internal criticism and alternatives - regional policy alternatives.
