trickster tales
Abstract:One of the most common and intriguinly fascinating characters in oral narrative traditions is the trickster, a character whose principal attributes are cunningness, ingenuity, greed, selfishness and deceit. The goal of this paper is to come to some understanding of the nature and particularities of the trickster as conceived by the Basotho of southern Africa through a structural analysis of five narratives from that culture. - Notes.
