Abstract: | The study of kinship is important because it is the mnemonics of certain fundamental social arrangements and norms in most societies. This study is concerned with the social implications of classificatory kinship systems. Kinship confers on individuals and groups common ascriptive status and privileges, in the social as well as in the political sphere. Most of the examples given in this article refer to West African tribes. Notes. |
