Abstract:It is a generally accepted opinion that the Calabar Mission (Presbyterian missionaries in Southeast Nigeria) was involved in the Aro expedition to extend the frontiers of Christendom. The author analyses documents and books on this subject (especially: Ayandele, E.A. 'The Missionary Impact on Modern Nigeria 1842-1914', London, 1966) and comes to the conclusion that the facts do not validate this opinion. Notes.
