Abstract: | Like all systems of governance, colonial rule in Northern Rhodesia required a shared system of ideology, which linked rulers and ruled. It is the argument of this paper that after 1924 the Northern Rhodesian government sought to create such a generalized, simple, yet persuasive ideology around the idea of the Imperial Monarchy. Sections: Sir Herbert Stanley and the rituals of Empire - the Prince of Wales in Northern Rhodesia - manipulation of the Prince's visit by Black and White. Notes. |
