Abstract: | The Afro-Asian economic Conference held in Cairo from 8 to 11 December 1958, considered: The impact of the European Common Market on Afro-Asian trade: Ways and means of facilitating transfers of payment; economic, technical and financial cooperation; Plans for establishing a central co-coordinating body for Afro-Asian Chambers of Commerce; Recommendations for an Afro-Asian economic organization at government level. The most important recommendation was that the Government should set up a fund for economic development and capital investment. Furthermore the conference decided to establish a permanent organization to co-ordinate economic co-operation among the Afro-Asian Chambers of Commerce. A proposal for setting up producers' associations in order to prevent harmful competition, was approved. |
