| Abstract: | At a meeting held 31 January - 3 February 1967, at the University of Ibadan, directors of 13 developmental research centers located at universities in 10 African countries (Congo-Leopoldville) Ghana; Kenya; Madagascar; Nigeria; Senegal; Sudan; Tanzania; Uganda; Zambia) established a standing organization: the Conference of Directors of Economic and Social Research Institutes in Africa (CODESRIA). The purposes of CODESRIA are to facilitate co-ordination of economic and social research activities conducted by the institutes in Africa; to encourage co-operation among the institutes in training of staff, sharing access to data processing facilities, storing and retrieving research findings and similar aspects of their research programmers; and to provide liaison between the centers in Africa and agencies interested in Africa developmental research located in the rest of the world. The Conference Chairman, Dr H.M.A. Onitri (Nigeria) assisted by annual meetings of the Standing Committee (Congo; Madagascar; Nigeria; Senegal; Sudan; Tanzania; Zambia), will be responsible for the pursuit of these purposes until the next scheduled meeting of CODESRIA, early in 1969.
